I often use technology to create charts, graphs and power points to help me study and or visualize the information I am working on.  This reinforces the content and ideas I need to learn and allows me to manipulate the data in ways that make sense to me.

Double Entry Journal #2

"They have to be exposed directly and indirectly in many ways to such innovative and creative learning styles.Henceforth, it is beyond doubt that the learning styles which involved the use of the latest technology have to be introduced directly and indirectly in the early years or stage of learning i.e from kindergartens until the tertiary level of learning irrespectively.Accessibility of knowledge will be easy if such innovative and creative use of technology are fully provided and utilized. At this juncture, I fervently believe that the developed countries will always be at an advantage as compared with the developing or the third world countries."

I truly believe that students need to be exposed to technology as early as possible as often as possible.  I am also a realist.  I see the rural surroundings and lower income families that make up our area.  I know that a majority of my students may not have access to reliable or any Internet if they even have a computer at home.  I also see that the state is trying to over come these issues in the schools with new programs and software that will allow students to have more access and time with today's technology.  If we ever hope to improve our state we have to start with our education system

Here is a video about West Virginia's new plan to integrate technology into the classroom.

I learned that country music has a large audience in this area. I also learned that people in this area also have more eclectic taste in music as well.

Double entry journal #1
Those hollowed artifacts- the Thomas Pynchon novel and the Michael Titchie film-had a place in earlier social environments.  While they may one day resurface as relevant, they are now chiefly of interest to cultural historians.  But digital video and Web politics are intellectually robust and stimulating, profitable and even pleasurable.

Maybe as a older student my outlook is a little different but I see all forms as relevant.  Also the fact that I am going to be a history teacher may also skew my opinion on what is relevant.  I feel that no matter the field we choose to go into we must adapt and adjust to the changes in technology therefore encouraging children to use and become familiar with all forms of tech is vital.  Even auto mechanics today can not simply pull out a Craftsman wrench and go to work.  On board diagnostics and electronic codes are over half of what they do now.  Technology is here to stay like it or not.  That being said I still like the way a real book feels in my hand and the way my hand flows over paper when I am free writing.  Accepting and adapting whats new doesn't mean we have to get rid of what has worked in the past.  The key is finding the happy medium.

I am a life long resident of Taylor County WV and hope to eventually teach history and political science at Grafton High.  As the parent of a child with extreme ADHD I have learned the hard way not all students learn the same and the it is the responsibility of the teacher to find ways to accommodate all learners.  During my 30 hour classroom observation I used various media files and power point to teach a class about the youth culture during the jazz age of the 1920's these included audio files of the new music and  video clips of the Charleston and other popular dances.  Often we also found it useful to allow the students to use their phones to look up additional information to clarify points or expand on information presented.  While I do feel that technology in the classroom can be a distraction I also see that it can be very useful and that it is up to the instructor to find the happy medium.
