Situated Language and Learning: A critique of traditional schooling Read the Introduction 1. What is the main challenge being addressed in the book? 2. What does the author mean by the phrase "ways with words"? 3. What is the core argument being made by the author of this book? 4. Give an example of a specialized variety of a language or "way with words"  you have learned outside of school? 5. According to the author, how do people learn a specialized variety of a language or  "way with words" best? 6. If people are to be successful in the 21st century, what must they become? 7. The author states that  learning academic language is NOT sufficient for success in  modern society? Do you agree? Why or Why not? 8. What do you think about this author's "way with words"? 1. the challenges addressed are how to teach in today's changing classroom and how to  reach children on their new  levels. 2.the proper use of language in the every day setting 3. finding ways to reach children on their levels and with their language. 4. Beside my own dialect I have learned to understand the variations of  British and Australian English   5. From more experienced people around them in other words their parents and other family  members  6. be able to think outside the box and not necessarily academically. 7. I believe that it isnt the only skill one must learn but it can not be totally discounted.       There may come a time when we need to fall back on those skills as well. 8. I like the fact that he mixed it up keeping it too academic would have turned many people off.
